- A little info and history.
- Hand crafted in a cottage industry environment the Peacock Chairs are all woven by hand by families that have been weaving the Wicker Natural Rattan plant for generations. They also can be known as throne chairs or Emmanule chairs.
- The designs of the chairs have been going for more than 150 years.
- During the late 1800s, Wicker Furniture became all the rage. This is partially due to the fact that porches, verandas, and other breezy areas were in demand, thus necessitating proper outdoor furniture. Since there wasn’t air conditioning back in this time, it was also suggested that you could, “bring summer inside,” and cool down your house with the light and airy Wicker Furniture.
- The popularity of the Peacock Chair did not waiver until the first world war started in 1914.
- The chair made a comeback in the mid to late 60's and stayed in fashion until the mid 80's.
- The Peacock Chair is back with a vengeance.
- What is Buri Wicker.
- Buri Wicker is the most common palm found in the country, Philippines. The scientific name of this plant is Corypha Elata Roxb. The Buri plant lives approximately up to more than 30 years. It grows all over the country at low and medium altitudes.
